The AquaMist product range from Tyco includes globally approved Water Mist solutions backed by over 100 years of expertise in fire protection. AquaMist offers a broad range of systems to offer the most suitable fire suppression solution for you to help protect people and property against a wide variety of fire risks. The fine water mist generated is designed to extinguish fires, or limit fire growth at an early stage, depending on the asset to be protected. AquaMist can help provide effective cooling and fire control on solid, deep-seated fires such as furniture, paper and cables (Class A).

On fires such as lubricants or fuels (Class B) or cooking oils (Class F) AquaMist can provide assistance with extinguishment and prevention of re-ignition. AquaMist can help cool the surrounding area, limiting the spread of fire. The AquaMist system benefits include a reduction of up to five times in the water required (when compared to standard sprinkler systems), while providing a superior control on applicable Class A, B and F fires.

AquaMist ULF

A complete engineered solution including pumps, valves, discharge nozzles, pipes and fittings, all designed to function as one dedicated fire protection system.

The system operates at working pressures of 7 to 12 bar (101.5-174.0 psi), producing droplets of water through a range of nozzles, specifically engineered and approved for a variety of fire hazards. AquaMist ULF systems are supplied through authorized partners.

The AquaMist ULF training modules provide complete design, technical, commercial and lifecycle knowledge. Authorized partners are fully supported by the Tyco technical services team and all Tyco Fire Protection Products are manufactured to the highest quality.

Benefits of a low pressure Water Mist system include lower water demands, translating into lower pressure losses, smaller diameter pipes and lower installation costs when compared to traditional sprinkler systems. As the system uses only water without additives, it produces no adverse environmental impact.

AquaMist SONIC

This system utilizes non-toxic and readily available extinguishing media (water and nitrogen). The AquaMist SONIC twin-fluid technology is safe for people and is environmentally-friendly.

It is constructed of industry proven, components including an ASME/ TPED approved stainless steel water storage tank. Capable of automatic detection and actuation and/or remote manual actuation, the system is installed and serviced by authorized distributors. Just two supersonic atomizers create 1.5 trillion superfine water droplets per second, producing a combined surface area of 121 m2 (1302 ft2). This is equivalent to covering the surface of an Olympic-size soccer field in one minute.

Additionally, the atomizers propel the droplets at high velocity throughout the combustion zone providing rapid fire knock-down. The atomizer is the key to the effectiveness of the AquaMist Sonic system. Supersonic technology generates a high-velocity, low-pressure zone that draws a thin sheet of water into a primary atomization region. A conical supersonic wave then creates a zone of extreme acceleration and high shear-rate, breaking the sheet into atomized droplets.

AquaMist FOG

AquaMist FOG systems reduce the consumption of water and pipe diameters required whilst providing a fast and efficient method of fire protection for class A and B fires.

AquaMist FOG provides outstanding fire suppression protection for Turbine and Transformer rooms, Engine Test Cells, Diesel Engines and Alternators, Paint Spray Booths and Mechanical Escalators. The system operates at working pressures of 70 to 200 bar to produce droplets of small diameters at high speed. For each different protected hazard, optimized nozzles have been developed and tested. AquaMist FOG is based on principles of well-established hydraulic technology.

Spray heads are designed to discharge water in the form of Water Mist, with tiny drops creating a large effective cooling surface area of the fire and surrounding volume. The high speed of the droplets means that the mist can penetrate the hot fumes and reach the combustion area quickly AquaMist FOG systems are available as either pre-engineered cylinder system, or engineered pumped system, AquaMist FOG provides a versatile fire protection solution.

AquaMist FOG systems are one of the best options when piping dimensions or pressure losses are critical, for example in applications such as older heritage buildings or libraries and archives, where fragile infrastructure needs specialist care and attention.

AquaMist Aplications

Digital integrity is a crucial aspect of commercial organizational operations around the world. Such organisations entrust their digital data to Data Centers to process, manage and store this vital information. The key concern for these organisations is business continuity; companies are dependent on Data Center information systems to run their operations. Company operations may be impaired or inactive completely if a system becomes unavailable. It is essential to provide a reliable infrastructure for digital information technology operations, to minimize any chance of disruption.

Information security is also a concern, and for this reason a data center has to offer a secure environment which minimizes the chances of a security breach. A data center must therefore keep high standards for assuring the integrity and functionality of its hosted computer environment. This is accomplished through redundancy of mechanical cooling and power systems (including emergency backup power generators) serving the data center along with fiber optic cables.

A data center is a facility used to house computer systems and associated components, such as telecommunications and storage systems. It generally includes redundant or backup power supplies, redundant data communications connections, environmental controls (e.g., air conditioning, fire suppression) and various security devices. Large data centers are industrial scale operations using as much electricity as a small town.

The true value of a data center lies within the data assets it manages, as well as the actual structure itself. Data is the very foundation of the businesses that use the center, whether they themselves also own the construction, or whether it is a co-location facility.

In an environment containing such volumes of business critical information, and a facility representing significant investment by or in support of data owners, it is essential to protect it from fire risk.

Industrial fryers are cookers commonly used in the food industry to produce consumables, such as breaded meats, potato products and pre-cooked snacks, for example. They contain large amounts of cooking oil (up to 19,000 litres or 5,000 US gallons) and operate at temperatures of up to 354°C (670° F). Industrial fryers have turnover rates of between 5- to 12-hour for continuous production, 5-hour turnover would be sufficient to maintain good oil quality under most frying conditions. Extending the turnover to 12 hours creates much more pressure on the oil. Even with careful control of all other aspects of frying, including temperature, moisture, crumb, seasonings and filtration, the oil will deteriorate after continuous use.

Many batch fryers may be heated to the set temperature 30 minutes to 1 hour before frying operation starts. After start-up fryer usage will vary, with intensive usage perhaps a few times a day, separated by inactive periods. This combination of extreme heat and volume of fuel creates a potential yet significant fire risk. Fires occur if oil reaches its auto ignition temperature, or if ignition sources are introduced above the flash point. Large volumes of oil, once heated, maintain temperature and as a result remain a fire risk for a long time. Cooling the oil is therefore critical to avoid re-ignition. This can be difficult, considering the energy efficient design of modern industrial oil cookers which makes cooling a slow process.

A fire incident presents a major risk to any business. Fire can affect operations across entire facilities, causing potential loss of life as well as equipment, assets and production time, which can incur significant costs. Fire incidents in the food industry can be costly, and there are very strict procedures to avoid food contamination.

To maximise the productivity of an industrial frying facility and balance fire risk it’s crucially important to install an appropriate fire protection system. By swiftly suppressing the fire, cooling accelerant, the risk to life, downtime and clean-up costs can be minimized.

Machinery Spaces in general terms are areas where complex machinery moves at speed, often in close proximity, generates heat and requires significant quantities of oil to optimise performance. The oils, lubricants and hydraulic oils used in Machinery Spaces and Plant Rooms can become flammable even though they are comparatively non-volatile liquids and have flash points higher than normal temperatures.

If a mechanical failure occurs creating a high temperature, perhaps through compression in an engine, contact of a liquid fuel with a hot surface, spark or flame the risk of a serious fire event is high. Machinery Spaces such as Turbine enclosures, Transformer & Generators, Engine test cells and Paint booths are among those posing the greatest fire risk. These spaces can be found in environments as diverse as Shopping Malls; in Elevator and Escalator Machinery rooms, Automotive Manufacture and Maintenance, Power Generation areas as well as in many other applications involving combustion machinery used for propulsion.

The fire risk in these environments poses significant threat to life and property because of the readily available fuels once the fire has ignited. It’s essential to mitigate this risk, to ensure the safety of machinery operatives and all people in the vicinity of plant of this type.

Modern cities depend on the integrity of cable tunnels for a host of data communications, power distribution networks and transport infrastructure. Located underground, tunnels can extend for long distances and are part of the vital information and energy infrastructure that serves commercial, industrial and residential needs. The volatility of electric cables in such systems poses a fire risk, which would simulatiously cause interruption in data communications.

Cable tunnels are environments which require ventilation systems to provide cooling and to enable system maintenance in an environment suitable for occupation by workers. Often located underground, the tunnels' ongoing management and maintenance as well as repair presents access concerns and space can be limited. A fire event in a cable tunnel has the potential to cause major disruption to traffic networks, businesses and neaby residents.

An archive is a repository of historical records such as documents, artefacts and other items, accumulated over the course of organization's or person’s lifetime, that are kept to show the function of that individual or organization. Archives are records kept to provide historic insight, positioning, record of all kinds of legal, commercial, administrative or social activities and consist of records that have been selected for preservation on grounds of their enduring cultural, historical, or evidentiary value.

Archive records are typically unpublished and almost always unique, their value culturally, historically as well as financially, is substantial and in many cases invaluable. Fire poses great risk to the preservation of assets contained within Archives. Protecting the archives can frequently mean protecting the entire building, where the risk of deep-seated fires and complex layouts pose a greater challenge.

Archive storage arrangements can often consist of tightly packed materials, together with natural flue spaces which would promote the spread of fire, yet inhibit water access. With low ceilings, limited drainage facilities and large areas above and below ground archive spaces frequently have difficult access and egress. Archive fire protection solutions should require low quantities of water to fight, control and extinguish the fire, while offering swift extinguishing capability to protect as much of the assets as possible from damage.

Commercial spaces, such as offices, retail, leisure and hotels contain a very varied mix of fire hazards. Such places of business can be occupied by vastly different numbers of people and varied critical assets at any one time, each representing a challenge for fire safety.

The levels and mix of fuels available within these facilities, changing occupancies and the configuration of the construction itself can each contribute to the rapid growth and development of a fire. The vertical openings within a building can enable smoke to spread with little effort. Means of egress can be compromised by construction features; smoke can infiltrate into enclosures and stairwells, as well as through the HVAC system.

Each commercial enterprise places value on the assets their business requires to perform, from their staff to the premises they occupy. Continuity and advancement are key to commercial success and so protecting the lives of staff as well as any structural asset itself are crucial to the delivery of the businesses activity.

Areas of an office requiring fire protection are generally not limited to conference rooms, cubicles, personal offices or other occupied areas in which people are working. Hidden and confined spaces such as above ceiling and below-floor areas containing electrical and data cables, can also be susceptible to fire.

A fire event in a concealed space of an office can not only pose a threat to the safety of occupants, but it can also result in damage repair and business interruption. Lost opportunity attributed to downtime can have a significant impact on a business.

Protecting these spaces requires a solution that can balance effective fire suppression with helping minimize damage and ensure business continuity.
