Gaseous Agents

Wormald’s SAPPHIRE™ fire suppression system uses an inert carbon-based chemical that powerfully fights fire yet is safe for property, people, and to the environment. It looks like water but doesn’t cause the damage normally associated with water because it contains no moisture. The result is lower repair bills and less impact on business.

SAPPHIRE™ has no harmful impact on the environment. It has an atmospheric lifetime of only five days while the closest chemical alternative has an atmospheric life time of 33–36 years.

INERGEN is a mixture of nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide, and has been specially developed to provide fire protection for sensitive electrical and electronic instruments and equipment.

INERGEN extinguishes fire by reducing the oxygen level in a room to below 15% (the point at which most combustibles will no longer burn). Simultaneously the patented carbon dioxide in INERGEN protects anyone that may be trapped in the fire area from the effects of the lowered oxygen levels, by increasing the rate of respiration.

Gas suppression systems are extensively used in electronic data protection and electrical system switch environments. Systems comprise electrical detection linked to a bank of cylinders where the gas is stored ready for discharge into the fire area.

The FM-200® gaseous system uses a regulated greenhouse gas, under the Ozone Depleting Substances & Synthetic Greenhouse Gases (ODS & SGG) Management Regulations 1995. This gaseous system works in seconds and is readily suited to the protection of high value assets.

The FM-200® provides total flood when used in; computer and electronic control rooms, telecommunication and switch rooms, data processing centres, vaults/tape storage, marine machinery spaces, chemical storage and clean rooms, medical laboratories and emergency power facilities.

Carbon dioxide is a clean gaseous agent, in plentiful supply and can be stored in either high pressure cylinders or low pressure tanks. It has been used effectively as a fire extinguishing gas since the early 1900’s.

Carbon Dioxide systems can be used for either total flooding or local application and are ideal for protecting high value assets where large quantities of agent is required. These include dip tanks, rolling mills, data processing centres, vaults/tape storage and marine machinery spaces.

FireTrace® is an automatic, pre-engineered system designed to be used in non-occupied, small or enclosed spaces such as those used for switchboards and control panels.

A unique, cost-effective, automatic fire suppression system, FireTrace® offers complete installation flexibility due to its stand-alone design and operation. No additional electrical or plumbing connections are required for its operation, making it ideal for new construction, retrofitting or mobile applications.

FireTrace® uses carbon dioxide gas to extinguish fire directly at its source, utilising a pressurised flexi-tube delivery system that allows FireTrace® to be installed virtually anywhere that a fire risk exists.
